Agricultural commercialisation and changing labour regimes in Zimbabwe

This paper explores the emerging labour regimes and consequences for agricultural commercialisation across multiple land-use types in post land reform Zimbabwe. The livelihoods of farmworkers, including those still resident former compounds, are explored. examines patterns employment, access, crop farming, asset ownership off-farm activities, highlighting diversification livelihoods. old pattern wage-employed, permanent farmworkers is increasingly rare, as autonomous, flexible combinations wage work, farming a range entrepreneurial informal activities emerge. thus engages with wider debate about changing nature ‘work' ‘employment', alongside discussions class implications ‘working people' ‘fractured classes labour’ transforming agrarian economies. Without captive, workforce, commercial agriculture must mobilise new ways, farm work workers have been refashioned setting.
